Cookie Policy

How Swatcher uses cookies and local storage.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit our website. They help us provide you with a better experience by remembering your preferences and understanding how you use our service.

How We Use Cookies

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the service to function properly:

  • Authentication: Keep you logged in to your account
  • Security: Protect against cross-site request forgery
  • Session Management: Maintain your session state

Functional Cookies

These cookies enhance your experience by remembering your preferences:

  • User Preferences: Colour display settings and interface preferences
  • Recently Viewed: Your recently viewed colours and palettes
  • Search History: Your recent colour searches (stored locally)
  • Shortlisted Colours: If you favourite colours before creating an account, they are held in an encrypted cookie on your own device so they are still there when you come back, and so they can be saved to your account if you create one. It holds only the colours you chose, it is never read to measure anything, and it is cleared once those colours are saved to an account.

Analytics

We do not use analytics cookies. Nothing is stored on your device to measure how Swatcher is used, and nothing on your device is read for that purpose, so there is no analytics consent to ask for.

Instead, when your browser has shown you a page it tells us so, and our server combines your IP address and browser description with a secret code that changes every night and is then thrown away. The result is a scrambled identifier that lets us count how many people visited today and which pages they read. It cannot be turned back into your address, it is never the same from one day to the next, and your IP address itself is not stored. Signed-in members are counted under their account instead. The counts are collected and kept entirely on our own servers, never shared with a third-party analytics provider, and cover:

So that automated traffic does not end up in those counts, the first page of each visit runs a Cloudflare Turnstile check in the background. It tells us only whether your browser passed; Cloudflare describes what it processes for that check in its Turnstile Privacy Addendum.

  • Usage Statistics: Pages visited and which features are used most often, counted only when your browser reports the page it has shown you
  • Performance Monitoring: How quickly pages load and respond, measured in your browser and sent to us when you leave the page
  • Campaign Tags: The utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign tags on a link you followed to reach us, when present

Until 8 September 2026 we set a first-party analytics cookie named sw_visitor. It is no longer set, and if your browser still has one it is removed the next time you visit.
